Simple for borrowers.
Profitable for owners.
NearMe connects people who need gear with people who have it: locally, safely, and for a fraction of the buy price.
Rent anything, from anyone nearby
Find what you need
Search by keyword or browse by category. Every listing shows real photos, the area it’s in, daily and weekly prices, and live availability. No guessing.
Pick your dates
Choose your pickup and return dates on the live calendar. Select a pickup and return time: morning, noon or afternoon.
Pay securely
Pay by card through Stripe. Your money is held securely and only releases to the owner once the rental completes. Cancel in time and you're refunded in full. Each listing shows its cancellation policy.
Collect, use, return
Meet the owner locally to pick up the item. Use it for your rental period, then return it in the same condition. Leave a review. It helps everyone.
Earn from gear sitting in your garage
List your item
Upload a photo, write a short description, set your daily price and an optional weekly rate. Listing is free, and you only pay commission on a completed rental.
Bookings come to you
Your availability calendar blocks out confirmed bookings automatically. You'll get a notification when someone requests your item, and you approve or decline.
Arrange pickup
Chat with the renter through the app to sort out pickup time and location. Keep everything in-app so there's a clear record if anything comes up.
Get paid
Once you confirm the gear came back, payment releases and lands in your bank account within 2–5 business days. You keep 85% of the rental price. The 15% NearMe keeps pays the card processing, the ID check on every renter, and the cost of running a claim if one ever comes up.
Safe for everyone
Four things stand between a stranger and your gear.
No bond, no surprises
There's no deposit and nothing is held on your card. Return the gear as you found it and you pay exactly what you booked — nothing more. It's only if an item isn't returned, or comes back damaged beyond normal wear, that a charge can apply, and even then it's capped at the value shown before you book. Photos at pickup and return protect both sides.
ID verified
Every renter completes a government-ID check through Stripe Identity before their first booking. Owners can verify too, and verified accounts carry a badge on their profile and every listing.
Payments held until return
The renter's card is authorised when they request, and only charged once you accept. Your share is transferred after you confirm the gear came back. If a booking is cancelled, the refund follows the cancellation policy on the listing.
Reviews after every rental
After each rental, renters review the owner and the gear. Honest, public and permanent. It keeps the whole community accountable.
Common questions
What if an item is damaged during the rental?
Start by messaging each other — most issues are sorted directly between the renter and the owner. If you can’t agree, NearMe steps in. The owner reports the damage on the booking within 72 hours of the return, with photos (if an item isn’t returned at all, that window starts once it’s more than 24 hours overdue). The renter is notified and has 48 hours to reply with their own photos. We compare the pickup and return photos from both sides and decide what, if anything, is owed. The amount is the lowest of the repair cost, a like-for-like replacement at market value, and the damage liability shown before booking, and never more than $2,000. Normal wear and tear is never charged.
What happens if gear comes back late?
Running late? Message the owner and agree a new return time — most late returns sort themselves out that way. Gear more than 24 hours overdue with no contact is treated as not returned: the owner can report it to the police, and the renter can be charged up to the damage liability shown on the listing.
How does payment work for owners?
The renter is charged when you accept their request. Your payout is transferred once you confirm the item came back, and typically appears in your bank account within 2–5 business days.
Can I cancel a booking?
Yes. Cancellation terms depend on the owner's policy (flexible, moderate, or strict). Flexible means a full refund up to 24 h before pickup. Check the listing before you book.
Is there a fee?
Renters pay a 10% service fee on top of the rental price. Owners keep 85% of it, and NearMe keeps 15% on completed rentals only. That pays the card processing, the government ID check every renter goes through, the photo and message record kept on every booking, and the cost of running a claim when something goes wrong. Nothing is charged on a listing that never goes out.
What can I list?
Almost anything: camping gear, surfboards and wetsuits, bikes, power tools, cameras. No cars or motorbikes, no consumables, nothing illegal.
